WHAT IS TRAUMA?

Trauma is an emotional wound that can present itself in a wide range of different and complex ways. Symptoms can include one or more of the following:

  • Anxiety
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Addiction
  • Eating disorders
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Attention Disorders
  • Pain or physical discomfort without medical findings

If you are familiar with any of these symptoms and have suffered a trauma then trauma therapy can help you.

WHAT IS TRAUMA THERAPY?

Trauma Therapy offers a wide range of approaches from a broad spectrum of therapeutic methods which can be tailored to the individual needs of each specific client. In this way, my clients are able to choose what is most helpful to them at that specific period in time and can, therefore, be an active part of their own therapeutic process.

Using Trauma Therapy, I focus on resources, self-compassion and effectiveness, as well as acceptance, mindfulness and self-awareness in order to build a powerful counterweight to the negative and traumatic experiences of the past. Through this process my clients can stay within and broaden their window of tolerance while gaining new, positive experiences in their lives.

HOW I WORK
I believe in working together with my clients to come up with a therapeutic plan that fits the individual needs and situation of each client.

As well as trauma therapy, I am trained in a variety of different therapeutic approaches including the following:

PITT (Psychodynamic Imaginative Trauma Therapy)
PITT is a resource and resilience-oriented approach, which uses the imagination as a source of healing, mindfulness, compassion and joy in order to reach a state of strength and stability.  My clients can arrive in the present and both recognize and use their opportunities and options to their best advantage.

This approach teaches my clients the beauty of self-comfort and treating themselves with compassion.

Hypnosis - WHO certification
Healing from within: Relax and find the resolution within yourself.

In the hands of a trained practitioner, hypnosis is a legitimate and useful tool for coaching and therapy. With modern hypnosis, the process of change can be simplified and accelerated.

Hypnosis uses our natural ability to access our subconscious in a relaxed state to help find the source of unresolved issues in order to replace bad habits with good or to get to the root of physical discomfort. By contacting the subconscious directly and giving it a chance to voice its concerns and desires, we can allow ourselves to more easily release old inhibiting beliefs and gain a better, more fitting and congruous understanding of ourselves and our surroundings and, in doing so, create lasting relief and change.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
EFT is a body-based combination of Chinese acupressure and modern psychology in which specific meridial points are activated through gentle tapping in order to soothe the nervous system when in a state of emotional arousal. The goal is to reduce the adverse effects of negative thoughts, emotions and beliefs without the risk of re-traumatization.

By tapping 9 meridial points during this exercise, calming signals are sent to the brain. In turn, the amygdala reduces the production of stress hormones such as cortisol, and begins a parasympatic response which gives us a sense of security, safety and control. The nervous system becomes more regulated and stress and fears are reduced.

Successfully learned EFT can be practiced by the clients themselves at home or anytime they find themselves in stress-inducing situations. Because of its simplicity and flexibility, it is a very helpful tool in stabilization and widening the window of stress tolerance in any situation.

Resource-Oriented Psychotherapy
Resources are the wellspring from which we draw strength both from within ourselves and from our surroundings. Some examples of these are humor, imagination, friends or family. Experiences can also provide us with important resources—beautiful memories that we can return to when life seems strenuous or times are hard and which provide us with that ever-important counterweight to negative thoughts and feelings that seem to pull us father down the rabbit hole.

In resource-oriented therapy, old resources are reactivated while current resources are found and strengthened to support the self-efficacy of my clients and help them reach and maintain the goals they set for themselves and their futures.

COACHING

I offer coaching, both in partnership with other therapies and also separately. I believe it to be a powerful therapeutic tool in which the client and I meet as equal parties, with the common goal of empowering the client to recognise and use their own resources.

Together we create a space for the client to reach personal and/or professional goals that they set for themselves.
